Visit downtown Raleigh’s past and present, all in one evening. Built in 1872 and remodeled and renovated in 2015, the Heck-Wynne House belonged to Jonathan McGee Heck, a lawyer and Colonel in the Virginia Infantry during the Civil War. Heck made a fortune manufacturing bayonets late in the war, using prisoners of war as laborers. He and his wife Mattie settled in Raleigh in 1869, built their mansion on Blount Street and became major developers of Oakwood.  Nowadays, when it comes to food, your hosts know all about it: they own multiple restaurants (Sitti, The Pit, Raleigh Times, Gravy, Morning Times and The Pit Durham).  Expect “traditional modern local international cuisine” here (just to cover every base!)—most of it made onsite by chef Melanie Dunia, North Carolina’s only female pitmaster.

Street parking available. Contact dshuirman@unitedarts.org for accessibility details.
